Georgia Outdoor News - GON Home Page: "Baiting Bill Won't Be Debated At Capitol This Week
HB 1285, the bill which would make it legal to hunt deer over a feeder in an area south of and including Heard, Troup, Meriwether, Pike, Lamar, Monroe, Jones, Baldwin, Washington, Glascock, Jefferson and Burke counties, will not see a debate on the floor of the Georgia House of Representatives this week. The bill is on the 'consideration calendar,' but it must be put on the Rules calendar before it is debated by lawmakers. If it were let out of the Rules committee, it would be up for debate the next legislative day. With the legislature out of session on Friday, the earliest HB 1285 could reach the House floor is Monday, March 6.
The bill passed out of the House Game, Fish & Parks Committee last week with no recommendation. Committee members were split almost evenly on whether they supported the bill, but all agreed that baiting should receive a vote on the floor of the House of Representatives.
Monday, March 6, will be day 26 of the 40-day legislative session. By law, a bill must pass out of the chamber in which it originates by the end of the 33rd day to have a chance at becoming a law. For instance, if HB 1285 passes the House by the end of the 33rd legislative day, the bill will move to the Senate for debate and possibly a vote."
